Nockalm Road
Nockalm Road, which opened in 1981, is nearly 35 km long and runs through 52 gentle bends (“Reidn”) and the Nockberge Biosphere Park, which is famous for its large number of larch and Swiss pine trees. The round “Nocken” rocks are geological rarities that are considerably older than the surrounding mountains and rich in mineral resources (particularly magnesite and iron ore). Numerous decommissioned blast furnaces along the road offer an indication of the past importance of mining in the region.
